The project aims to create the web portal
Manuscripta.cz, which will present medieval manuscripts stored in the Czech Republic to the scholarly community and the broader public. As part of the project, a new database of medieval manuscripts in Czechia will be created in collaboration with individual libraries, archives, and other institutions or owners, based on both existing online and printed catalogues, as well as by adding numerous records that do not currently exist. The portal will provide an overview of all codices from Czech collections written before the year 1500 and will include various functions for searching individual manuscripts according to specific criteria.
An important part of the portal will be its interconnection with other related websites, especially with the Hyperfontes (hyperfontes.cms.flu.cas.cz) and Czech Medieval Sources online (sources.cms.flu.cas.cz) databases, and with the Manuscriptorium.com portal which collects the digitised copies of most of the Czech medieval manuscripts. Users will thus be able to find individual manuscripts according to various criteria easily and also directly access their digitized versions and respective digitized records of older catalogues (if they exist).
The inspiration for the project comes from similar foreign portals such as manuscripta.at, manuscripta.se, manuscripta.pl, mmdc.nl, and handschriftenportal.de.
